Southern Jelly Palm Butia caterinensis formerly odorata / Palms

This is a rare Jelly Palm from South Eastern Brazil, usually found growing along the coastal strip in sandy soils. Extremely cold hardy to -10C, this palm will do fantastic in the South Island and cooler, inland regions of the North Island.

A really great option for having a tough, hardy smaller palm in the garden. It’s trunk size rarely exceeds 15cm in diameter.

 

  • Prefers full sun, but will tolerate part shade.
  • High wind tolerant.
  • Will tolerate heavy frosts.
  • Grows to a height of 3 metres (approx).
