King palms are closely related to bangalow palms. They are fast growing, look fantastic when planted in tight groupings and give a strong tropical look. They are most suited to courtyard planting or sheltered areas.

Arecastrum Romanzoffianum
Queen palms are New Zealand’s most popular palm. They are fast growing, look fantastic when planted in groupings of two or more and give a strong Mediterranean look. They work well with large succulents, vireya and bird of paradise, but harmonise nicely with many other palms and sub tropical plantings.

Tibetan Sugar /
Arenga Micrantha
This is a beautiful collectors palm from Taiwan. Slow growth and enjoys shaded, moist conditions. Has a silvery sheen to the underside of leaf.

Howea Forsteriana
A very elegant palm. Fantastic in tight groupings of two, three or more. The kentia is well suited to our coastal environment and copes well with salt laden winds, however they do like good moisture and a fertile soil to do extra well.

Very easy to grow and a lovely specimen for indoors and outdoors. Prefers semi to full shade and shelter.

Rhopalostylis Sapida “Chatham Islands”
The Chatham Nikau is proving itself to be the hardiest to frost and drought of all nikau varieties and species. Supremely attractive and iconic. A must have for all palm enthusiasts. The Chatham Nikau is the most southerly grown palm tree in the world and along with the Kermadec Nikau they grow faster than mainland varieties.

Rhopalostylis Cheesemanii
Faster growing than mainland varieties, the Kermadec Nikau originates 300kms north of New Zealand on the Kermadec Islands. Broader leaved and with a more open crown than the shaving brush looking Chathams and mainland varieties. Prefers a frost free situation until established. Semi-shade to full sun.

Rhopalostylis Sapida
As far as palm trees go, our own native Nikau is one of the most desirable and highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts from around the world. It prefers life initially in semi shaded conditions and likes to grow “into” the sun. Enjoys good moisture.

A very versatile and hardy palm. The Chinese Windmill can become the “bones” of your landscaped garden. These are another palm which looks great tightly planted in groups of two or more and they can also be stripped of their Hessian bark to produce a more tropical look.
